Renders

Russell, I was thinking more about the roof and instead of just a plain roof structure, I could create a walkable terrace. I thought in a lot of schools these days they have vegetable gardens, since the top level recieves a lot of sunlight I though I could make it a walkable space with vegetable plots, trees etc
I have changed the roof so it looks like it actually has a form of structure not just glass.
I have also changed my exterior renders using vray- its the same shadow settings when I use shaderlight, but for some reason vray comes out a lot brighter..do you think these renders look better? thanks

Three Favoured Projects

Chateau de Chenonceau

Chateau de chenonceau is one of the finest examples of French Renaissance Architecture. The Chateau was built between 1515-1576 in the Loire Valley
It is an example of a good architect utilising the natural surroundings as a part of the architecture. The large rectangular Chateau stands on piles over the river cher, which creates a vast mirror image in the water. This Chateau depicts how important the connection between a site and a building is.

Tate Modern
The Tate Modern, London was originally a Power Station which was built between 1947-1963 and closed in 1981. In the mid 1990's it was refurbished as the Tate Modern by Herzog and de Meuron. This is an example of Industrial Architecture with a modern twist.
The Architects have enhanced the original structure rather then demising it. It is a good example of adaptive reuse.

Gasometer
Gasometer in Vienna is a good example of adaptive reuse. Originally four gas tanks which were built between 1896-1899, they shut down in 1984 and were not used for a number of years.
In 1995 they were remodelled by four different architects Jean Nouvel, Coop Himmelblau, Manfred Wehdorn and Wilhelm Holzbauer. They were completed in 2001, each 'tank' was remodelled as a mixed use space including apartments, offices, entertainment and shopping.

After reflecting on my World View of Architecture and the comments received from Russell I have developed my main frame to be 'Adaptive Reuse' rather then it being purely based upon the Landscape.

World View of Architecture

My world view of architecture is to embrace local conditions, integrate natural elements of a site to enhance the architecture rather than diminishing it. View the landscape as an opportunity to create an indicative relationship with the architecture. Landforms not only act as solid ground for a building but are a source of inspiration, curves of hills, reflections on lakes and rough edges on cliff faces.  Furthermore, the site also determines what material to use, lightweight near the beach, thick stone and timber in the alps.
Architecture has made a distinctive contribution to peoples happiness and I believe the site represents a large role in this.
